Craig and Mullins's complaint resulted in a lawsuit, Craig v. states that include sexual orientation as a protected class in their anti-discrimination laws. While another bakery provided a cake to the couple, Craig and Mullins filed a complaint to the Colorado Civil Rights Commission under the state's public accommodations law, the Colorado Anti-Discrimination Act, which prohibits businesses open to the public from discriminating against their customers on the basis of race, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. : 2 The following day, Craig's mother, Deborah Munn, called Phillips, who advised her that Masterpiece did not make wedding cakes for the weddings of gay couples : 2 because of his religious beliefs and because Colorado did not recognize same-sex marriage at the time. Craig and Mullins promptly left Masterpiece without discussing with Phillips any of the details of their wedding cake. Masterpiece's owner Jack Phillips, who is a Christian, declined their cake request, informing the couple that he did not create wedding cakes for marriages of gay couples owing to his Christian religious beliefs, although the couple could purchase other baked goods in the store. Ĭraig and Mullins visited Masterpiece Cakeshop in Lakewood, Colorado, in July 2012 to order a wedding cake for their return celebration. At that time the state constitution prohibited same-sex marriage in Colorado, though by 2014 the state had allowed same-sex marriages, and the Supreme Court of the United States would affirm that gay couples have the fundamental right to marry in Obergefell v. In 2012, same-sex couple Charlie Craig and David Mullins from Colorado made plans to be lawfully married in Massachusetts and return to Colorado to celebrate with their family and friends. Masterpiece Cakeshop in Lakewood, Colorado The Court did not rule on the broader intersection of anti-discrimination laws, free exercise of religion, and freedom of speech, due to the complications of the Commission's lack of religious neutrality. ![]() ![]() To its credit, Electronic Arts has tried to keep the Command & Conquer franchise alive to varying degrees over the years. Speedy and team definitely deserve a break, but maybe they're all the more excited for further RTS modding than ever. Mental Omega delivers two acts of campaign, and some fans are already questioning whether there could be a third. For context, that's longer than the official Red Alert franchise ever lasted.įunnily enough, as excited as fans are for the new and final update for Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2's Mental Omega mod, they're also asking the question of what will happen next. It's one thing to love a game so much that someone will dedicate their time to creating a mod, but it's something else entirely to work on a mod across over 15 years. What's most impressive about Mental Omega isn't just its size, but rather the dedication of Speeder and the other developers who have worked on the mod over the years. It's the first update in over a year, but for Command & Conquer fans, it's going to be more than worth the wait. This specific Mental Omega update, an upgrade to 3.3.6, includes nine missions, a new game mode where all RTS players start in the center of the map named "Land Grab," 40 standard maps, 10 "Land Grab" maps, 2 "Islands" maps, 5 "KOTH" variant maps, new units and buildings, new artwork, massive changes to the mod's balance, and so much more. RELATED: Command And Conquer Remastered: The Complete CNC Timeline Explained The free mod features a massive 133-mission "megacampaign" spread across four different factions. The announcement was made on Twitter by Mental Omega main designer Speeder, who confirmed to their followers, "The work is done." As of the start of November, Speeder and team uploaded version 3.3.6 of Mental Omega to ModDB, the final version of a massive mod for Command & Conquer 2: Red Alert 2's Yuri's Revenge expansion. Few, however, love Command & Conquer like the modders behind Mental Omega, a modding project for Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2 that's now finished after more than 15 years of development. Growing disinterest and lack of lack of funding in real-time strategy games hastened Command & Conquer's shelving, but there remain pockets of dedicated fans who adore the Westwood-developed series. Command & Conquer, and particularly its Red Alert spin-off, used to be one of the most popular franchises in gaming. ![]() ![]() You learn that you must deliver coal to the hold and you also receive a paper with captain Obo's access code - use it to open the hangar and use the crane. Howard, a border-town misfit, mythology enthusiast, and cruiserweight boxer who killed himself at the age of 30. The landscapes Conan rides through could be anywhere from Mongolia to Utah, but were shot mostly in Mexico.Īlthough most of the movie's real-world referents are too eclectic to make sense of, one is unambiguous: Conan stands for his creator, Robert E. What about the movie's geography? Are the Karpash mountains meant to evoke the Carpathians? They run along the border of the mythical kingdom of Corinthia, also a real place in Greece. The soldiers of Shadizar look like a mix of teutonic knights and mongolian bandits, and their religion involves polytheism and a mythical reverence for their warrior caste. What about Cimmeria? We learn that "Cimmerians have no rulers," yet Conan dreams of becoming its king. Grace Jones is called Zula, but her tribe is unnamed (however, all its women are warriors). Try guessing at the anthropological referents of this world's peoples. ![]() Zula hands her a staff (phallus) and shows her how to wield it, whereupon Conan grabs the staff, throws it away, and hands her his enormous sword, a "real weapon." Or Conan's belated mirror stage, where he realizes that the manifest lizard-monster is a mere projection of his unconscious and the only way to kill it is to attack his own ego-object, smashing all of his reflections in the ice palace's mirror chamber. There's no shortage of Freudian motifs, like Princess Jehnna's penis envy when she asks Zula ( Grace Jones) to make her into a warrior. He'll have to traverse majestic plains, ice palaces, and ancient caves he'll have to fight cannibal witch-doctors, ghost dragons, and ultimately the reanimated god of gods, Daggoth.Ĭonan the Destroyer can be read as a political allegory (Conan's haphazard crew as a multiethnic egalitarian community defeating a retrograde caste-based monarchy, democratic America versus the Soviet Union or some Islamic theocracy), but it might be less arbitrary to read it as an Oedipal quest: orphaned Conan has to kill both the possessive superego Mother (Queen Taramis) and the monstrous ancient Father (Daggoth) by breaking off his horn (castrating him), in order to accede to the throne (thus becoming the Father). ![]() The premise is so skeletal it belongs in an 8-bit platformer: Conan is to infiltrate the lair of the evil sorcerer Thoth-amon and retrieve a magic key the key will give Queen Taramis magic powers, which she'll use to bring Conan's love, Valeria, back to life. Conan's crew itself is a carefully curated (yet supposedly spontaneous) collection of stereotypes: a fierce African warrior, an Oriental sage, a reticent Central Asian giant. (Conan: "What good is a sword against sorcery?") All the components are there in their pure form: an evil wizard, a virginal princess, a magic gem, and feuding peoples who represent different stages of social development (savage, barbarian, civilized). The closing verses on “Smile” and “Marcy Me” are among the most well-balanced and technically sound in a storied career defined by such performances. ![]() ![]() These are finely-tuned elegies for the old JAY-Z, for the old Brooklyn, for a broken marriage, for rap kayfabe. Some of the flows are rough around the edges, and he isn’t as nimble in and out of cadences as he used to be, but he compensates with carefully considered schemes and a fluidity that has come to characterize his work. There’s mention of Solange drama and a sneak Kanye diss, but that’s flotsam around the heart of the record. Jay hasn’t been this precise or proficient in a decade, perhaps because he’s finally interested in disclosing the realest parts of himself. Inside these personal revelations, one of rap’s greatest thinkers rediscovers his sharpness. Every angle he creates is informed by blackness (on “Legacy” he raps, “We gon’ start a society within a society/That’s major, just like the Negro League/There was a time America wouldn’t let us ball/Those times are now back”), as “The Story of O.J.” states outright in its hook and “Moonlight” insinuates more subtly. But, above all else, 4:44 is about legacy: how Jay will be remembered, what he’s leaving to his children, what he’s done for the culture, and what he’s trying to do for society. It only takes JAY-Z 36 minutes to create the historical artifact he’s wanted to make for years, a tell-all document to be hung in the halls of rap about infidelity and outgrowing friends, the way family shapes us and the way we carry those burdens into parenthood, and about evolving into more complete versions of ourselves. This is Hov’s gospel, a Shawn Carter retrospective measuring missteps and triumphs, wondering aloud if his work will appreciate in value, and what exactly is worth valuing. Fatherhood has eroded some of that cool, but 4:44 deconstructs an entire worldview. Before, he was unfadable, the supreme hustler without error. The album is certainly built around a betrayal, but his duplicity, the corresponding apology, and his reassessment are vehicles for his own maturation. 4:44 isn’t JAY-Z’s Lemonade, a response to Lemonade, or a Lemonade companion piece. ![]() ![]() ![]() Trainer now can also detect Windows Store game version, but it’s not tested on that version, so it may or may not be 100% compatible.
